Surreal Hair and Eats in South Australia is a café-cross-salon with a conscience. Owners Antonietta and Nick Ciacciarelli were travelling two years ago when they came across the concept of a salon-café and fell in love with the idea. They wanted to bring this experience to Adelaide, and it didn’t take long before all the pieces fell into place. With their close friend Dominic Barilla as café manager and the support of their daughter Juliane they opened the first salon-café in South Australia, and Sustainable Salons has joined their journey!
Pop down to Surreal Hair and Eats to get pampered with a cut and colour, then sit down at the cafe and enjoy a selection from their delicious menu. Your unique salon-café experience doesn’t stop there, in return for a small donation you can pick some fresh produce from their community garden.
Just outside the salon is a small garden maintained by Nick’s 83-year-old father, full of fresh fruits, vegetables and herbs that patrons are welcome to harvest for a donation to their “Honesty Box”. These funds go towards charitable services such as the Hutt Street Centre and other South Australian charities. Since the beginning, Antonietta and Nick have been invested into giving back to their community, and through their garden they have raised over $2500 worth of donations!
Although Antonietta and Nick have always been conscious of the social impact their business could have, they haven’t always considered its environmental impact. Instead, it’s something that they slowly learned about and gradually came to realise was so important for both the environment and their business. When they first introduced Sustainable Salons into their daily operations, they were shocked by the amount of resources they could save from going into the environment.
Nowadays they lead the green charge, educating their guests about Sustainable Salons and what we do for them such as keeping their plastics in circulation and recycling all their foil, from both the salon and cafe!
Surreal Hair and Eats are focused on growing their business with their new sustainable ethos. Here at Sustainable Salons we’re glad to have Antonietta and Nick with their amazing community spirit on the team!
