A NEW WAY TO LOOK AT BUSINESS SUCCESS

We have been in business for 30 years, so while we still focus on running a profitable business, we are not just driven by a relentless chase for profit. We are also passionate about educating and training of our staff, employee job satisfaction and customer satisfaction.

Recently, we started looking at profitability in a different way, based on environmental sustainability - Greig, SUKI Hairdressing

REDUCING OUR IMPACT AND OUR COSTS

We were already recycling our cardboard and plastic, by dropping these off at a recycling centre. And we knew that the annual electricity costs for our business were around $20,000, which is equivalent to approximately 75 tonnes of Green House Gas per annum. In a first step, we educated ourselves on ways to reduce our environmental footprint, in a series of workshops with Energy Hunter. We succeeded in reducing Suki Hairdressing's electricity consumption by 30%, thereby reducing costs and our footprint on the planet. We also reduced our water usage by about 200,000 litres/year through the use of Easydry towels, Ecohead nozzles, and an LG washer/dryer. More cost saving! Our success with energy costs drove us to look for other ways to improve in this area, and this coincided with the introduction of Sustainable Salons Australia. It was a perfect match for our business. 0SrNxnWMwSezuPq-ZRLOxov88cXlUsaiS6rD3EVfKAA

WE LOVE THE RESULTS

  • We now recycle via Sustainable Salons, saving on time and fuel costs. Our staff and clients are right behind us in our efforts.
  • We no longer pay Council fees for garbage collection.

We love that, as well as recycling the colour wastage, cut hair is also recycled for such worthy purposes as wigs, managing oils spills, and making compost. Much better than just sweeping it into the bin! We found the system really easy to implement, so after a little staff education, we have not had to make significant changes. To other salon owners who are thinking about it, I would say “get on board”, for as Neil Young says Who’s gonna stand up and save the earth?
